Other exciting must-see educational discussions for today include:

Nov. 14 – 11-11:45 a.m. - Category Shift to Glass Railing - Outdoor Living Stage, Booth 5911 - Mike Kunard, IG Railing

The category shift to frameless glass railing is quite pent up in the LBM (lumber & building materials) industry as the lumber industry has primarily walked away from glass railing systems, while the market demand has steadily been pushing for “better view” systems. Additional demand has grown from the high growth in acceptance of frameless glass systems in shower door applications. With increasing pressure and acceptance, it is no wonder, glass railing and frameless, post-less partially framed glass railing systems are growing into the LBM and all construction industry.

The glass railing category that has survived in the LBM category has been post frame systems. Glass has and has not been included depending on the manufacturer. Today, there are far more options from spigots to standoffs to shoe railing and many systems in between.  This presentation will give a visual sampling of some of the trending products providing the best possible views and recommendations for safety and approvals to be used in different applications.

Customization has become such a valuable resource in outdoor living with amazingly talented deck builders installing custom patterns in panels and deck flooring— it is a natural to want customization in railing as well. There is no better product to offer customization and lighting into than glass. We will demonstrate the beautiful examples of lighting, acrylic etching, illuminating, and privacy solutions using glass railing.

Glass railing is at its early stage of growth curve in the LBM or lumberyard/box store markets but is also available in e-commerce and personalized glass shops. We will discuss where and why each would be the right reason to purchase from one versus the other.

The lateral load connectors and fasteners required to keep your deck connected to a home when lateral forces such as wind, earthquake or the forces caused by people on the deck surface moving back and forth, as well as the joist members that are supported by the ledger.

1-1:45 p.m. - Elevating Success: Implementing Educational Training and Rewards in a Pro Rewards Program - Outdoor Living Stage, Booth 5911 - Gary Kauffman, Product Manager at Digger Specialties, Inc.

Join us for an in-depth session focused on creating the training and testing components of a Pro Rewards program tailored specifically for Westbury railing installation professionals. This session will provide valuable insights and practical strategies to develop comprehensive training modules and testing procedures that ensure excellence in Westbury railing installations.

1-2 p.m. - Decks Done Right: Lateral Connections, Joists, Joist Hangars - Decks Done Right Stage, Booth 5512 - Rachel Holland and Scott Fischer, Simpson Strong-Tie

For decks that are partially supported by your home, or any adjacent structure, the connection between the deck and that structure is vital. So, when lateral forces such as wind, earthquake, or the forces caused by people on the deck surface moving back and forth are imparted on the deck, code requires that decks be restrained to the house to resist these forces. They will discuss the lateral load connectors and fasteners required to keep your deck connected to your home when these forces occur, as well as the joist members that are supported by the ledger.
